Arts Alive Professional Development
Teachers of the arts from across West Virginia are invited to apply to participate in a one-day professional development event on April 29 in Charleston.
The professional development opportunity follows the 2nd Annual Arts Alive: The Best of West Virginia, which is West Virginia’s signature showcase for the arts in public schools. The event, which is sponsored by the West Virginia Department of Education and the West Virginia Department of Education and the Arts, is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. on April 28 at the Clay Center in Charleston. The event will feature student artists in dance, music, theatre and visual art.
The professional development session will give arts teachers the opportunity to expand their knowledge about the showcase and learn more about the role the arts play in the 21st century classroom.

The Day in the Studio at Tamarack, and registration for the 3-D show was February 29, 2008
The reception and pick up for the 3-D show will be March 29, 2008 from 1:00-2:00 p.m.
All pieces are to be picked up at that time; with the exception of the winning pieces, these will go the the Clay Center for Arts Alive, the Best of WV.
The West Virginia Division of Culture and History and the West Virginia Commission on the Arts are seeking nominations for the 2008 Governor’s Arts Awards. All West Virginians are encouraged to nominate individual artists, organizations and communities in four categories of awards. The deadline for nominations is April 4, 2008.
The award categories are Appalachian Folklife Award in the Arts for outstanding contributions to the artistic traditions of West Virginia’s culture and heritage; Distinguished Service to the Arts Award for exceptional talent and creativity that have contributed to the arts and have fostered growth and influenced trends and aesthetic practices on a state and national level; Leadership in the Arts Award for demonstrating exceptional leadership and access to the arts throughout the state of West Virginia; and the Governor’s Arts Award for Lifetime Achievement for significant accomplishments in the arts.
A ceremony and gala to present the awards will be held on Monday, June 9, at the Cultural Center, State Capitol Complex in Charleston.
